Choi Hong-man, the 'original giant' standing at 217 cm, shares a bittersweet behind-the-scenes account of his unexpected encounter with his 221 cm rival, Ha Seung-jin.
This coming 22nd, the MBC variety show All Broadcasts in the World will reveal Choi Hong-man's daily life from his schedule in Seoul to his life in Jeju Island. With the rise of 'tall brothers' in the entertainment industry, marking the 'era of giants', Choi Hong-man asserts his presence by saying, "I am the true original."
The show will also feature a chance meeting with Ha Seung-jin. Choi Hong-man recalls the moment he ran into him at a restaurant in Jeju, saying, "I was surprised when Ha Seung-jin came over to greet me first." He continues, "It was nice to see him, but there was an oddly awkward atmosphere." Just the sight of the two giants in one space raises curiosity about what conversation might have occurred between them.
During a visit to his regular hair salon while in Seoul, aspects of Choi Hong-man's hidden past are revealed. Reuniting with the designer who has done his hair for 17 years, he confesses that he once debuted as part of a mixed-gender group called Beauty and the Beast. He also recounts a heartbreaking story of how his first stage ended up being his last due to a company scam. Though his singing career was brief, the connections he made during that time have endured to this day.
Choi Hong-man's surprising charm doesn't stop there. Boarded on a flight to Jeju, he clutches a cushion tightly and freezes like a rock the moment the plane takes off. Challenging the stereotype of 'giant=strong heart', Choi Hong-man shares an unexpected confession that due to acrophobia, he only rides the carousel at amusement parks, causing the studio to burst into laughter.
Choi Hong-man's day, oscillating between overwhelming physicality and silliness, will be revealed on the 22nd at 11:10 PM.
