Chef Son Jong-won opened up about his experience filming the Netflix original variety show Culinary Class Wars Season 2, revealing that his calm performance was shaped by intense training on Please Take Care of My Refrigerator.
On the January 4 broadcast of JTBC’s Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, Son shared behind-the-scenes stories from Culinary Class Wars Season 2. When fellow chef Kwon Sung-joon complimented him by saying, “You look so cool on the show,” host Kim Sung-joo asked whether the experience felt different. Son laughed and replied, “Honestly, Culinary Class Wars Season 2 was nice and quiet.” Kim jokingly added, “No meddling MCs and no Kim Poong either.”
Son explained that Please Take Care of My Refrigerator had trained him to function under extreme time pressure. “On Culinary Class Wars, everyone panics when three minutes are left. But on Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, three minutes is enough time to drink water, grab ingredients, and still finish two more dishes,” he said confidently.
Chef Sam Kim agreed, saying that the program helped him overcome pressure from the clock. Hearing this, Kim Sung-joo proudly remarked that the show had “raised” many chefs, while co-host Ahn Jung-hwan joked that it was basically a chef academy, drawing laughter.
A comment from Culinary Class Wars Season 2 cast member Jung Ho-young also became a talking point. When asked if he danced on the show, Jung replied, “I saw comments asking about that, but honestly, no one wanted me to dance,” sending the studio into stitches.
Separately, Son ranked No. 1 among non-drama TV–OTT personalities for the fourth week of December 2025 with Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, according to Good Data Corporation’s FUNdex.
