As if answering fans' wishes, the musical DEATH NOTE is adding actors Go Eun-sung, Kim Junsu, and Jang Min-je to its star-studded lineup.
On the 19th, producer OD Company officially announced the trio's additional casting.
The musical DEATH NOTE, which opened last October, is in the middle of a long run through May. All three previously sparked a box-office frenzy, selling out performances at lightning speed early last season. Their return is already drawing explosive attention.
DEATH NOTE is based on the Japanese manga of the same name and follows the breathless mind game between prodigy high-schooler Light Yagami, who obtains a shinigami's notebook, and the legendary detective L who hunts him down. Its solid storytelling, striking characters, and high-caliber score have earned enduring love from audiences.
Go Eun-sung reprises Light Yagami. In the previous season, his restrained performance gradually revealed Light's extremity and cold intellect, delivered with a resonant voice and precise control—earning rave reviews as the "real-life Light." Expectations are high for an even more mature portrayal this season.
Kim Junsu returns as the master detective L. With his signature tone and nuanced acting, he's set to amplify the tension of L's meticulous deductions while portraying the character's complex inner world.
Jang Min-je joins as Misa Amane. Backed by a clear tone and steady technique, she's expected to capture not only Misa's bright, lovable charm but also the character's hidden scars with delicate detail.
As the news broke, online reactions exploded: "If you wait it out, you win," "I'm already excited," and "The real ones are back." When the first casting was revealed in August last year, many fans were disappointed that their hoped-for names were missing—making this announcement all the more exhilarating.
Kim Junsu takes the stage first on March 10, Go Eun-sung on March 11, and Jang Min-je on March 24. All eyes are on whether DEATH NOTE will reignite its red-hot momentum with their comeback.
Meanwhile, this season of DEATH NOTE runs through May 10 at the D-Cube Link Art Center.
