Legendary Chinese cuisine master Hudeokjuk is set to drop shocking, untold stories from his 57-year career on tvNs You Quiz on the Block.
On the 19th, the official You Quiz on the Tube YouTube channel released a teaser featuring Hudeokjuk. He looked back on the days when he cooked for the late Samsung founder, Chairman Lee Byung-chul. Determined to find medicinal cuisine recipes for the ailing chairman, Hudeokjuk traveled the country even revealing he was once kicked out of a restaurant for saying, "Dont take photos." Believing that "you have to taste it to figure out the recipe," he waited outside a restaurant until 10 p.m. for the head chef, eventually persuading them after work and successfully learning the dish firsthand. The full story behind the so-called "longevity" dish born from that process will be revealed in the broadcast.
He also got real about behind-the-scenes moments from Culinary Class Wars 2. Although he made it to the TOP 3 before being eliminated, Hudeokjuk admitted, "It was tough, but in a way, I also felt it might be better to drop out," with a laugh. Still, he confessed, "I wanted to make it to the finals, so part of me was disappointed."
The biggest viral moment was a wedding photo showing zero guests on the brides side. When Yoo Jae-suk brought up the image circulating online, Hudeokjuk explained, "Back then, people looked down on being a chef, so there was a lot of opposition to our marriage. We decided to hold the ceremony on our own without our parents permission." While the grooms side had attendees, the brides seats were empty. Hudeokjuk added, "The reason Ive endured for 57 years is my wife," expressing deep affection.
