Former figure skating icon Yuna Kim finally met volleyball queen Yeon-koung Kim.
On the 22nd, a new video titled "A universe-shaking crossover! The long-awaited meeting of the emperors—wait, is this really happening?" dropped on Yeon-koung Kim's YouTube channel Bread Unnie.
Surprised by the rare guest, Yeon-koung said, "You usually don't appear on shows or YouTube, unlike me. How did we get you to come out here?" reacting to Yuna Kim's appearance.
Yuna Kim explained, "I've been in the public eye since I was young, so it's always felt like a lot of pressure. I usually turn these down, but when a respected senior reached out, I felt it was only right to say yes."
What really grabbed fans' attention was that Yuna Kim slid into Yeon-koung's DMs first before filming.
Yeon-koung shared, "She DMed me. I don't check Instagram that often, but there it was," adding, "For a first message, it felt super friendly—and she even used an emoji," proudly reading the DM.
The message read: "Hello, unnie! I think this is our first time saying hi—just wanted to reach out in advance. I never imagined we'd meet like this, but I'm honored that the opportunity came up." Yuna Kim added that she messaged first because "it felt better to break the ice before filming, and since I'm the junior, I thought it would be polite to greet her first."
For context, Yuna Kim retired after winning silver at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, while Yeon-koung Kim retired after leading Team Korea to the semifinals at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.
