Park Yoochun, the singer-actor formerly of TVXQ and JYJ, has personally addressed a wave of rumors that recently spread online.
On the 22nd, Park posted on his Instagram, "There are so many rumors about things I never even thought or said. Hearing them for the first time was so shocking." He added, "Please do not believe anything unless it comes directly from me," drawing a clear line against speculation. (There are so many rumors about things I have neither thought about nor said. I heard them today for the first time, and I am shocked. I want you to believe only what I say directly.)
His post came right after reports that his ex-fiancée Hwang Hana was again arrested on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act, fueling even more attention. Hwang has been indicted for allegedly urging an acquaintance to inject and use philopon (methamphetamine) at an apartment in Seoul's Gangnam and administering the shot, and speculation spread that she mentioned the names of some celebrities during questioning — sending online rumors and suspicion into overdrive.
Back in 2019, Park was indicted alongside Hwang for using drugs and received a 10-month prison sentence suspended for two years. At the time, he held an emergency press conference, strongly denying the allegations by saying, "If I used drugs, I would leave the entertainment industry." However, after the National Forensic Service returned a positive test result that confirmed the charges, he ultimately announced a halt to his activities.
He later reversed his retirement and resumed activities mainly in Japan and Southeast Asia — hosting fan meetings, releasing albums, and appearing in local dramas. But in Korea, a string of issues, including a dispute over his exclusive contract and a tax arrears controversy, made a domestic comeback difficult. Although a recent damages lawsuit with his former agency was settled, critics continued to point out that he stayed silent without offering clear explanations about various suspicions.
With his latest Instagram statement, online reactions are divided — from "Is he finally going to explain everything?" to "He is trying to shut down the latest round of rumors."
All eyes are now on what ripple effects Park Yoochun's direct stance will have.
