The original dance musical Navillera, which explores intergenerational connection through the language of ballet, is returning to the stage.
On the 11th, the Seoul Performing Arts Company announced the performance dates and full cast for Navillera.
Navillera is based on the popular Naver Webtoon of the same name and was adapted into a 2021 drama starring Park In-hwan and Song Kang. The story follows Deok-chul, a 76-year-old who begins ballet at the twilight of his life, and Chae-rok, a 23-year-old drifting through an unstable youth, as they meet and grow together. The 2019 premiere earned an impressive 96% seat occupancy, drawing major acclaim.
Choi In-hyung reprises the role of Deok-chul from the original and revival runs. The young ballerino Chae-rok will be double-cast with VIXX’s Ken (Lee Jae-hwan) and SF9’s Jaeyoon, who will each bring a distinct charm to the character’s journey.
Additional casting includes Kim Yeon as Deok-chul’s wife Choi Boon, Kim Yong-han as the eldest son Shim Seong-san, Lee Hye-su as the second daughter Shim Seong-eun, Song Moon-seon as granddaughter Shim Hye-jin, and Lee Jong-han and Kang Sung-chul as ballet company director Moon Kyung-guk. Choi Byung-hee will play Min-gu.
Delivering a universally relatable story that transcends generations and time, Navillera will run from May 2 to 17 at the CJ Towol Theater, Seoul Arts Center.
