Director Jeong Ji-young’s new film My name is is set to open on April 15.

My name is tracks 18-year-old Young-ok (Shin Woo-bin), who’s desperate to shed his old-fashioned name, and his mother Jeong-sun (Yeom Hye-ran), who fights to recover Jeju’s forgotten memories from 1949 — weaving a story that jumps across generations. Their journey moves from a most painful secret to a blazing, life-affirming truth.

On screen, Yeom Hye-ran plays the mother Jeong-sun, relentlessly pursuing the erased memories of 1949 — and she’s gunning straight for viewers’ tear ducts. As the rave review put it, "Yeom Hye-ran’s acting is history itself" (ODG). Her searing performance commands the screen and hints at another box-office hit.

Notably, the film was recently invited to the Berlinale Forum section, earning praise from industry insiders worldwide. Hailed as "an astonishing resonance that breaks the silence left by tragedy," it showcases director Jeong Ji-young’s unwavering, muscular direction.

Hitting theaters on April 15, My name is is emerging as a powerful dark horse that’s already fueling hype among movie fans.
