Comedian Nam Chang-hee candidly opened up about the backstory behind his much-talked-about wedding.
Appearing on MBC variety Radio Star on the 18th, Nam shared behind-the-scenes details of his ceremony and stories about his wife. His spouse is Yoon Young-kyung — once dubbed the 'Han River IU' after appearing on Infinite Challenge — who is reportedly now a civil servant.
Nam admitted there was initial opposition from his wife's family. He explained, "Given the nature of an entertainer's job, the unstable income was a big concern." He added that he gradually earned their trust by showing a homely, down-to-earth side through his YouTube channel 'Silbijip.'
He also addressed his choice of The Shilla Hotel as the venue. As some labeled it a "super-luxury wedding," Nam said, "I really wanted to treat our guests well," adding, "After comparing quotes, there wasn't a big difference from other places." He shared that they kept costs in check by choosing an off-season Sunday evening slot and cutting back on pricey decor options.
Nam then spoke about the wedding cash gifts that drew attention. He revealed, "Jo Se-ho matched what I gave him, and I'm so grateful," highlighting his close friend's loyalty. He went on to thank close colleagues like Yoo Jae-suk, Hong Jin-kyung, and Lee Dong-wook for contributing significant amounts, adding that he hopes to pay the love forward.
