Actress Moon Geun-young, who paused activities due to health issues, is making a theatrical comeback after nine years.

On the 19th, the press call for the play Orphans was held. Director Kim Tae-hyung and the actors playing Harold, Treat, and Phillip attended.

Orphans is set in North Philadelphia and follows middle-aged gangster Harold and orphaned brothers Treat and Phillip, whose strange cohabitation slowly transforms them into a true family.

This season’s Orphans is drawing major attention for its gender-free casting that breaks traditional boundaries. Above all, the production is in the spotlight as Moon Geun-young’s long-awaited return to the stage after she announced a full recovery from a rare disease. Moon was diagnosed with acute compartment syndrome in 2017 and underwent four surgeries, and in October 2024 she personally shared the news of her full recovery.

Explaining why she chose the gritty male character Treat for her comeback, Moon said, "The comfort and message in the script hit me hard, so I chose it without hesitation." She added, "I wrestled with the role of Treat and the gender-free approach, reading the script countless times every night. In the end, I felt a strong drive to make it work somehow," revealing her passion for acting. She also shared, "I trained diligently in knife handling and action for the role, and since I’m not used to swearing, I even got help from friends," offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse.

Promising deep comfort and a weighty message, Orphans will run at Daehakro TOM through May 31.
