The singer Sung Si-kyung candidly opened up about why he decided to lose weight and how he’s been doing lately.
On his YouTube channel, a recent episode featured Kim Jong-wan, the vocalist of the band Nell. The two chatted while eating gejang (marinated crab).
When Kim asked about his current drinking habits, Sung said, "I’ve dropped a lot of weight lately. For over a month, I’ve been working out and managing my diet at the same time." He added, "I became a cosmetics model, and I didn’t want to cause trouble or get laughed at," revealing what motivated his diet.
In particular, Sung noted, "When I tell people I became a model, a lot of them laugh," and continued, "During the contract period, I want to keep a model-like image. I have to make sure I don’t suddenly gain weight," showing his sense of responsibility.
He also talked about changes in his drinking. Sung said, "I’ve cut way back on alcohol. I can’t drink like I used to. My brain still feels fine so I don’t feel the buzz as much, but my body is definitely not the same as before," he admitted. Looking back, he laughed as he recalled, "There was a time when I’d down a bowl of makgeolli in one go to kick off the night."
Toward the end, Sung said, "For a long time, I lived without properly managing my weight. Becoming a cosmetics model at my age felt like a burden, but I took it as a good opportunity and worked hard." He added, "Now that I’m back in the normal weight range, I want to maintain it in a healthy way."
Meanwhile, Sung is set to continue active promotions as the MC of KBS2’s music program The Seasons — Sung Si-kyung's Eardrum Boyfriend.
