As controversy over film translator Hwang Seok-hee intensifies, a wave of content removals across broadcasting has begun—signaling a rapid move to scrub Hwang from screens.

On the 31st, MBC variety show Omniscient Interfering View announced it would halt VOD services and set related clips to private for the episode featuring Hwang. The episode showcased Hwang’s daily life, and it is currently unavailable on OTT platforms as well.

Earlier, tvN’s variety show You Quiz on the Block also took action on Hwang’s appearance. Producers reportedly edited the program’s VOD and are gradually setting YouTube clip videos to private.

These moves follow reports on the 30th regarding Hwang’s past criminal record related to sexual offenses. According to Dispatch, Hwang was prosecuted in multiple cases in the past and reportedly received a suspended sentence.

As the backlash grew, Hwang issued a statement on social media. Hwang said, “We are currently reviewing the related matters with a lawyer,” adding, “If any parts of the reports are inaccurate, unverified, or go beyond legal judgment, we will consider corrections and responses.” Since then, most of Hwang’s previous posts on social media and YouTube have been set to private, effectively limiting communication with the public.

Hwang is a star translator known for localizing numerous blockbuster foreign films, including Bohemian Rhapsody and Deadpool. Hwang reportedly also worked on the recently released film Project Hail Mary.
