W Korea's "Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign" has become a source of controversy as it is promoted as a "Breast Cancer Party."
Fashion YouTuber Jeon Shin-woo revealed the invitation received from W Korea on the 23rd, which included the phrase "Breast Cancer Party," stirring further debate.
The invitation stated, "This is the W Magazine Breast Cancer Party that drew attention with the participation of top stars. This year, we have partnered with W Magazine to invite creators," followed by details indicating that attendees would get the chance to experience performances by celebrities in an intimate setting, with attendance limited to a select few.
Shin-woo expressed, "Honestly, I saw the strange phrase 'Breast Cancer Party' and wondered, 'Is this right?' I thought, 'Are people really going to this?' but it seems many did. Maybe I was the only one who found it odd."
The outrage began with W Korea's charity event, titled "Love Your W 2025," held on the 15th of this month at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno, Seoul. The event saw attendance from famous personalities both domestically and internationally, including BTS's V, RM, IVE's Jang Wonyoung, and actors Ko Hyun-jung and Jung Hae-in, with images of them enjoying the party in sponsored outfits quickly spreading on social media. However, this portrayal of the event has faced criticism for straying from its original intent.
Ultimately, W Korea officially apologized on the 19th, acknowledging the discomfort and hurt caused by not carefully considering the perspectives of breast cancer patients and their families.
