Psychiatrist Oh Jinseung drew shock from viewers and criticism from panelists after confessing to a “false kinship” during a broadcast.
On the episode of SBS’s reality show Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 aired on the 27th, Oh Jinseung appeared alongside his wife, former KBS announcer Kim Doyeon, known for their YouTube channel Doctor Friends.
At the beginning of the show, Oh Jinseung announced, “I have a secret to share,” revealing, “Dr. Oh Eunyeong, whom many of you know, is my aunt.” This surprised everyone in the studio. He continued, “She gives me New Year’s money and offers me lots of good advice,” causing a stir.
But his claims didn’t stop there. He added, “Actor Oh Jungse is my cousin. I have the blood of the Boseong Oh clan running through me.” The MCs expressed their astonishment, saying, “Now we understand why he’s sitting next to Dr. Oh.”
However, the mood quickly shifted. His wife, Kim Doyeon, revealed, “My husband often tells aimless lies. He has no relation to either Oh Jungse or Dr. Oh Eunyeong.” To this, Oh Jinseung admitted, “Yes, it was a lie.”
The studio turned chaotic. Kim Gura and Seo Janghoon exclaimed, “Is it permissible to lie like this on public broadcast?” and “Isn’t it time for him to see a doctor?”, while Lee Jihye stated emphatically, “It’s not funny at all.”
Oh Jinseung explained his reasons for lying, saying, “I wanted attention and to be in the limelight. I didn’t mean to harm anyone.” However, the panelists countered, “Regardless of intent, it’s a matter of trust.”
Ultimately, Oh Jinseung’s “false kinship” confession led to embarrassment and controversy rather than laughter. Viewer reactions after the broadcast included comments like “It was uncomfortable,” “Not funny at all,” and “Shouldn’t a psychiatrist have been more careful in their statements?”, raising critical voices.
