SBS's Unanswered Questions is taking aim at the controversy surrounding comedian Park Na-rae.
The January 24 broadcast of SBS's Unanswered Questions will investigate the truth behind the so-called "Injection Auntie" controversy — the claim that an unlicensed individual has been performing illegal medical procedures for high-profile celebrities.
In November last year, Dr. Hong Sung-woo, a urologist known online as "Kwachu-hyung," revealed that Park Na-rae had introduced him to a woman with the surname Lee. She was a woman in her 40s who introduced herself as the head of a plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam and the CEO of a company that brings in foreign patients.
Ms. Lee visited Dr. Hong's clinic and proposed an overseas hospital expansion project. Park Na-rae also described her as an acquaintance — a "surgery unni" she knew — and when Dr. Hong spoke with Lee, she seemed convincingly like a doctor. But days later, Lee made headlines with a suspicious title attached to her name.
At the height of her popularity, comedian Park Na-rae was thrust into controversy after former managers accused her of power abuse. Among the allegations: she received medication, injections, or IV drips from someone without a medical license, and outside a hospital setting — a person later identified as Ms. Lee. It's also been reported that the acquaintance who introduced Lee to Dr. Hong was Park Na-rae herself.
Lee's husband claimed, "Park Na-rae came to our home just once, three years ago. We are not the 'Injection Auntie.' The real 'Injection Auntie' is someone else." According to the production team, whom he met with after considerable effort, Lee's husband insists the allegations labeling his wife as the "Injection Auntie" are absurd.
