MBC variety show Geukhan 84 wrapped up with a powerful finale as its cast completed the Arctic Polar Circle Marathon, achieving the ultimate goal of their physically and mentally demanding journey.
In the final episode aired on the 1st, Kian84 and the rest of the Extreme Crew confronted the harshest natural conditions yet, with every member successfully crossing the finish line. Their perseverance, teamwork, and raw emotional moments resonated deeply with viewers.
The finale recorded a nationwide household rating of 4.3 percent and 2.4 percent among viewers aged 20 to 49, according to Nielsen Korea. The highest moment peaked at 7.1 percent during Kian84’s final solo run in the Arctic.
Throughout the race, Kian84 battled nausea and later suffered a severe leg cramp just before the finish. Pushing through the pain, he sprinted toward the end while waving the Korean flag, finishing with a personal-best time of 5:09:54 and ranking 44th out of 125 participants. He later shared an emotional moment with actor Kwon Hwa-woon, telling him he thought of him throughout the run.
Kangnam also completed a dramatic finish despite intense pain, repeating his wife Lee Sang-hwa’s name to endure the final stretch. Encouraged by fellow runners, he crossed the line at 5:57:37, narrowly beating the cutoff.
Following the race, Kian84 and Kangnam presented Kwon Hwa-woon with a handmade trophy and medal after he expressed disappointment over finishing fifth due to cramps. Touched, Kwon said that meeting the team made him genuinely happy and that the journey was far from over.
After the crew departed, Kian84 remained behind to run alone through the Arctic landscape one last time. Reflecting on the experience, he wrote that running was not about defeating himself, but understanding himself, vowing to continue forward like a glacier flowing toward an unknown sea.
Since its premiere last November, Geukhan 84 has chronicled extreme races across South Africa, France, and the Arctic, establishing a new benchmark for endurance-based reality programming.
