Park Ji-hoon and Yoo Hae-jin’s ‘The King’s Warden’ Surpasses 14 Million — Now the 5th Biggest Korean Film Ever

Shocking milestone: The film The King’s Warden has surpassed a cumulative audience of 14 million, setting a historic record.

According to Showbox on the morning of the 20th, ‘The King’s Warden’ has reached the 14 million admissions mark. This places it fifth all-time among Korean films, following The Admiral: Roaring Currents (17.61 million), Extreme Job (16.26 million), Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (14.41 million), and Ode to My Father (14.25 million).

Released on the 6th of last month, the film rode strong word of mouth from family audiences over the Lunar New Year holidays and joined the coveted ten-million club. Advance ticket reservations currently stand at about 162,000, and at this pace, it could even break the 15 million mark.

Set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo during the Joseon era, the story follows village head Eom Heung-do and the deposed young former king, Danjong, in exile. Yoo Hae-jin delivers a powerful performance as Eom Heung-do, with Park Ji-hoon portraying Danjong; Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Mi-do, Lee Jun-hyuk, and Ahn Jae-hong also star, rounding out a stellar ensemble. Director Jang Hang-jun helms the film.
