MC Ding-dong, a pre-show MC who previously sparked outrage for a DUI hit-and-run, is back in the hot seat after allegedly assaulting a female guest during a live online broadcast.
During a so-called 'Excel' stream on a recent platform broadcast (a format that publicly ranks viewer donations in real time), MC Ding-dong reportedly got into a heated argument with a female BJ (Broadcast Jockey) co-host, which escalated into a physical altercation.
The incident allegedly began when the female BJ, while singing, joked about MC Ding-dong's past DUI and subsequent attempt to flee. Enraged, MC Ding-dong shouted, "Turn off the camera," then rushed at her and grabbed her by the hair. The moment was aired live without being cut.
After briefly leaving the set, MC Ding-dong returned to the stream in tears and apologized. "For a year and a half, I barely had any work, and I was trying to get back on track, but hearing that set me off," he said. "I am sorry to the viewers and my fellow cast members." He added, "I will never drink and drive again."
Moments after the apology, when donations came in, MC Ding-dong stood up, danced, and shouted out the donor by name.
Online reactions include, "He assaults someone and then immediately does a reaction for donations?", "How is that okay?", and "This is a total trainwreck."
Back in 2022, MC Ding-dong was arrested in Hawolgok-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, after allegedly driving a Mercedes while heavily intoxicated, refusing a breathalyzer test, and attempting to flee. He even collided with a police car, and was indicted on charges including violating the Road Traffic Act (DUI), obstruction of special official duties causing injury, and more. He received a 1 year and 6 months prison sentence, suspended for 2 years.
After a period of self-reflection, MC Ding-dong recently signaled a comeback by working as a pre-show MC for Active Singer King 3. With this latest incident, however, he is once again facing major backlash.
