SBS’s investigative program ‘Unanswered Questions’ will examine the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman identified as Kim Ji-hyun (alias), who died after suffering a brain hemorrhage.
On the March 14 broadcast, the program revisits the case of the 40-year-old woman, who was taken to the hospital in the early hours of January 24. Her husband, who lived separately during the week, rushed to the hospital after being informed by police that she had been transported there.
At the emergency room, Kim was unconscious and had severe swelling on her face along with visible bruises on parts of her body. According to her husband, she had been healthy just two days earlier when they last spent time together. She remained in critical condition and died three days after being admitted.
Paramedics arrived at Kim’s second-floor apartment around 3:30 a.m. after receiving a report. A neighbor surnamed Lee, who lives on the fifth floor, was present when emergency responders arrived. Introducing himself as an acquaintance, he said he had called emergency services after noticing that Kim appeared to be unconscious.
Lee told responders that he had been drinking with Kim at his home the previous evening. He said that after briefly going out, she complained of dizziness, collapsed, and hit her head. According to his account, she later returned to her apartment, and he contacted emergency services out of concern for a possible brain hemorrhage.
Police later placed Lee under emergency arrest after suspecting that an assault may have occurred.
During the investigation, authorities reportedly discovered an audio recording on Lee’s phone that had been made on the day of the incident. The file runs for approximately one hour and 45 minutes.
The program will explore the circumstances surrounding the case in its March 14 broadcast at 11:10 p.m.
