Comedian Lee Hwi Jae is resuming his broadcasting career, taking the stage on KBS2’s variety show Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend for the first time in about four years.
On the 16th, Lee joined the taping of the Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend special, "2026 Entertainment Industry King of Kings," held at KBS’s new building in Yeouido, Seoul. After halting activities following KBS2’s Entertainment Company Live in 2022, he had been living in Canada with his family. After a long hiatus, he finally stood in front of the cameras again.
While cast members including Kim Shin-young and Cho Hye-ryun posed at the photo line on site, Lee quietly entered via a separate route to avoid the press — a move widely seen as mindful of the intense scrutiny surrounding his return.
Reactions split as soon as news of his appearance broke. Some viewers posted complaints on the show’s official message board, while others remained skeptical as past controversies over his hosting attitude and family-related issues resurfaced, fueling a still-chilly reception.
During rehearsal, Lee reportedly became emotional and shed tears while singing Choi Ho-seop’s "When Time Passes." Addressing his return, the production team said, "We cast him considering his singing ability and public recognition."
Lee Hwi Jae’s comeback stage will air over two weeks on the 28th and on April 4 via Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend.
