Singer Jo Gap-kyung is set to appear on MBC’s variety show Radio Star, but interest is surging as a family controversy makes headlines.
At the end of the March 25 broadcast of Radio Star, a teaser for next week’s episode aired. The clip featured Jo Gap-kyung alongside Chaeyeon, Go Woo-ri, and Lee Chae-young, who are scheduled to appear in the April 1 episode themed as the ‘Loyalty Inducers Special.’
However, right as the teaser dropped, a private-life controversy surrounding the son of Jo Gap-kyung and Hong Seo-beom—identified as A—began to spread. A’s former spouse, identified as B, alleged an affair and also raised issues over unpaid child support.
In September last year, a district court in the first trial acknowledged A’s responsibility, ordering 30 million won in damages and monthly child support of 800,000 won. The case is currently under appeal.
Responding via a YouTube channel, Hong Seo-beom said, "The lawsuit isn’t over yet," adding, "We have already paid part of the damages, and per our lawyer’s advice, we are holding child support until the appellate decision." He emphasized, "It’s not true that we haven’t paid anything at all."
With the legal battle still ongoing, news of Jo Gap-kyung’s TV appearance has sparked debate, with some questioning the timing: "You’re going on air at a time like this?"
Meanwhile, Jo Gap-kyung and Hong Seo-beom married in 1994 and have one son and two daughters.
