Entertainment agency ADOR has officially kicked off its damages lawsuit worth around 43 billion KRW against NewJeans’ Danielle, her family, and former CEO Min Hee-jin.

On the morning of the 26th, the Civil Division 31 of the Seoul Central District Court held the first preparatory hearing for the case, confirming each side’s stance. The session lasted about 30 minutes, with both parties sharply clashing over how fast and in what manner the case should proceed.

Danielle’s side argued, “Because timing is critical for an idol’s career, a prolonged lawsuit would inevitably cause damage,” requesting an expedited trial. They also contended that “including family members and former CEO Min as defendants, despite having no direct link to the exclusive contract, is problematic.” ADOR countered that “this case concerns damages and liquidated penalties and is not directly connected to entertainment activities.”

The dispute stems from ADOR’s notice in December last year to terminate its exclusive contract with Danielle. At the time, ADOR signaled legal action, stating that Danielle’s side and former CEO Min were responsible for the conflict. The claimed amount totals approximately 43.1 billion KRW.

Previously, in November 2024, NewJeans members sought to terminate their contracts citing breaches, but the court ruled the contracts valid, siding with ADOR. Some members have since returned, while Danielle, after receiving a termination notice, entered a separate phase of dispute.

The sides also differed on the possibility of a settlement. ADOR stated it was “open to mediation and settlement,” while Danielle’s side drew a line, saying, “This is the first we’ve heard of any settlement talk.”

The next hearing is scheduled for May 14.
