On the 26th, Netflix announced it will premiere the horror series Girigo on April 24.
Girigo follows high school students who receive sudden death notices after being cursed by a wish-granting app called 'Girigo,' and their desperate fight to break the curse. Marking Netflix’s first Korean young-adult horror series, it stars Jeon So-young, Kang Mina, Baek Sun-ho, Hyun Woo-seok, Lee Hyo-je, Jeon So-ni, and Noh Jae-won.
The series is directed by Park Yun-seo, who co-directed the Disney+ series Moving.
The newly released poster leaves a striking impression with an empty hallway and a high school student in a crisp uniform holding a cracked smartphone. It also visually reveals the presence of the 'Girigo' app, which grants wishes at the price of death. The line "Do you have a wish you'd die to make come true?" hints at the link between wishes and death, stoking viewers’ curiosity.
In the teaser, the opening scene shows Hyeong-uk (played by Lee Hyo-je) gripping a box cutter in the middle of the classroom; as the red timer on his phone ticks down, he charges at his friend Se-a (Jeon So-young). This shocking start fuels questions about the connection between the 'Girigo' app and the unfolding incidents.
With interest in the recent K-horror film Salmokji heating up, Girigo is poised to carry the torch for K-horror.
