SBS Unanswered Questions is shining a spotlight on a shocking incident that unfolded inside a villa in Incheon.
The case dates back to July 10, 2024, when authorities discovered a woman’s body that had been left to mummify for three years and six months in a villa in Incheon.
It all began when the building manager visited a tenant who had stopped paying rent and gone incommunicado for more than 10 days. After forcing the door open, they found a room packed with belongings and trash, with the TV and a fan still running. Spotting a single neatly made bedding set, the manager looked inside—and discovered a body lying there in a mummified state.
An autopsy suggested the cause of death was asphyxiation from neck compression. Police identified the tenant, a man surnamed Kim, as the suspect. At the time, Kim was in a detention center on fraud charges. During questioning, Kim claimed his ex-partner, Park Ji-young, had proposed a suicide pact due to depression and had asked him to kill her. He admitted to the killing and said he attempted to take his own life afterward but failed.
Reports say Kim hid the body in the studio for 1,277 days, taking selfies nearby and going about his daily life—bizarre behavior that has stunned the public. Netizens reacted with comments like "This is grotesque" and "I’m definitely tuning in live."
