Shocking confession: AKMU’s Lee Su-hyun revealed she endured a severe slump, describing an isolating, 'hikikomori'-like period that left fans both stunned and heartbroken.
In the March 30 preview for tvN’s variety show 유 퀴즈 온 더 블럭, siblings Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun opened up about the difficult time they had never fully discussed before.
Lee Su-hyun recalled, "There was a time when I barely saw any sunlight." She continued, "I shut myself in my room and lived like a hikikomori. My entire routine was gaming and eating delivery food."
She added, "I kept the curtains closed because I didn’t even want to feel whether it was day or night," and confessed, "I binged every single day." As her weight rapidly increased, she experienced physical pain as well. "Back then, I thought, 'There’s no better future for me,'" she said, drawing further sympathy.
From her family’s perspective, things felt even more urgent. Lee Chan-hyuk said, "To our family, it was obvious she was struggling, but she didn’t recognize it herself," adding, "I was terrified I might lose my sister. If things became irreversible, I knew I’d regret it for the rest of my life."
To stay by her side, Lee Chan-hyuk moved in with his sister, and the two have reportedly been living together for about a year.
Now, Lee Su-hyun is recovering. She shared with a laugh, "My brother keeps knocking on my door, checking my workouts and diet. He keeps saying, 'Did you do cardio?' 'Did you get on the treadmill?' 'Why didn’t you send me your meal photos?'" She wrapped up with a playful jab, "He talks so much that at some point all I can see is his mouth," highlighting their sibling chemistry.
AKMU recently concluded their journey with YG Entertainment and founded a new label, Spring of Inspiration, signaling independent activities ahead. Their fourth full-length album '개화' (FLOWERING) is slated for release on April 7.
