Shinhwa member Kim Dong-wan landed back in the spotlight on April Fools’ Day with a cryptic post.

On April 1, Kim posted on his Threads account, "I won’t lie today, because fans are hoping the post itself is a lie." Timed with April Fools’ Day, the remark seemed to nod at his recent string of controversies, drawing attention.

Before that, Kim wrote, "I used to be a bit skeptical about call-outs. I think I was looking at it too much from a male point of view. Even accounts that look perfectly normal often cross the line," adding, "I just saw comments left on a young user’s account and was shocked. Let’s ‘expose’ them so we can filter each other. I may be a weird old guy, but there are too many people crossing the line."

Through Threads, Kim has consistently shared his views on various social issues. Recently, he touched on sensitive topics such as the legalization of prostitution, South Korea’s low birthrate, and remarks involving MC Dingdong, triggering sharply divided reactions. Along the way, some fans voiced concern about the tone and frequency of his posts.

As debate intensified, Kim apologized last month, saying, "If I made you uncomfortable, the responsibility is entirely mine." Even so, he continued speaking his mind. Most recently, regarding speculation over Shin Hye-sung skipping Lee Min-woo’s wedding, he drew attention by saying it was "just a personal choice—there’s no need to read into it."

Public opinion remains split over his recent comments and actions. Some praise his blunt honesty, while others say he’s courting controversy. All eyes are on how Kim will choose to communicate going forward.
