Actors Im Ji-yeon and Heo Nam-joon are already generating major buzz with a wildly original rom-com premise.
On the 2nd, SBS announced that its new Friday-Saturday drama Brave New World, starring the two, will premiere this May.
The series follows an unpredictable romance between a no-name actress possessed by the spirit of a notorious Joseon-era femme fatale and a third-generation chaebol heir nicknamed the "monster of capitalism."
Im Ji-yeon takes on a dual role as Kang Dan-sim, the Joseon "temptress who shook the nation," and Shin Se-ri, the unknown actress who becomes possessed by her spirit. She is set to capture the survival instincts and grit of a woman suddenly thrust into the 21st century.
Heo Nam-joon plays Cha Segye, the sole heir to the Cha-il Group. He seems like the perfect chaebol chaebol heir, but only wavers in front of Shin Se-ri, showcasing a surprising charm that has fans excited for their rapid-fire chemistry.
Jang Seung-jo portrays Choi Mun-do, Cha Segye’s paternal relative, revealing the ambition hidden behind his gentlemanly facade, while Lee Se-hee appears as top star Yoon Ji-hyo, Shin Se-ri’s rival, adding tension. Kim Min-seok joins as Baek Gwang-nam, a job seeker who becomes entangled with Shin Se-ri.
After the script reading was revealed, online communities and social media lit up with praise like "Rock-solid casting," "This lineup is everything," and "Can’t wait to watch."
The production team shared, "Their teamwork was so perfect, it was hard to believe it was their first meeting," adding, "Please look forward to Brave New World, which will capture viewers’ hearts with the actors’ powerful performances and chemistry."
Meanwhile, Brave New World is slated to air after the current series Phantom Lawyer wraps.
