KBS’s flagship long-running variety show Happy Together is making a shocking return after roughly six years—this time with a bold upgrade that fuses a music audition format into the classic talk setup.

On the 7th, KBS announced that "Happy Together will return with a brand-new concept," confirming comedian Yoo Jae-suk as the main MC. The revamped program is titled Happy Together - Honjaga Anieoseo Joa and is currently targeting a July premiere.

Since its 2001 debut, Happy Together ran until 2020—nearly two decades—cementing itself as KBS’s signature variety. It spawned countless hit segments, including Metal Tray Karaoke Room, Sauna Talk, and Late Night Cafeteria, earning steady love from the public.

The new season keeps the show’s core identity while pushing fresh ideas. Introducing a 'storytelling music audition' that blends music and talk, it goes beyond pure skill showdowns to spotlight contestants’ relationships and narratives. Crucially, participation is team-based, with no limits on age or genre, and judges will weigh "why they’re together" and their "harmony" as key criteria.

The production team shared, "Yoo Jae-suk will go beyond the role of a simple MC to empathize with contestants and draw out their stories," adding, "He will play a major role in conveying the emotions behind the songs and the team narratives with real depth."

Applications open today (the 8th) and run through May 31 via the official website. Anyone can form a team and apply, so a wide range of challenges is expected.

With a beloved classic reborn under a new concept, all eyes are on the impact Happy Together’s comeback will make.
