Netflix just pulled back the curtain on its ambitious new series — a chilling YA horror built around a deadly wish-granting app. The main poster and trailer for If Wishes Could Kill have been unveiled, setting the internet abuzz.
Set in a high school, the story follows teens fighting to escape the curse of the wish-granting application 'If Wishes Could Kill'. As Netflix’s first-ever YA (young adult) horror series, it spotlights teenage protagonists driving the narrative within a distinctly school-based genre.
The main poster captures five stone-faced friends in an ordinary classroom, radiating an icy tension. A sinister red glow spills from the phones of Sea (played by Jeon So-young) and Nari (Kang Mina), while the device in front of Ha-jun (Hyun Woo-seok) shows the deathly app 'If Wishes Could Kill', teasing the terrifying curse they’re about to face.
Adding to the mystery, a lone, unidentified girl sits at the back of the room clutching her phone. Far from a bright, youthful haven, this classroom is drenched in darkness and dread — cranking up anticipation for Netflix’s take on the YA horror genre.
The newly released main trailer promises even deeper terror. It opens with Hyeong-uk (Lee Hyo-je), who unexpectedly aces a test, introducing the app 'If Wishes Could Kill' to his friends. The trailer reveals a dangerous setup: record a video writing your birth chart and name, make a wish, and send it off — and your wish will come true. Soon, inexplicable phenomena strike the students one after another, pushing the tension to a fever pitch. In particular, the frantic cross-cuts of the shaman Haetsal (Jeon So-ni) and Bang-ul (Noh Jae-won) performing a ritual to break the curse hint at a desperate fight for survival.
Fueling hype with its fresh premise, If Wishes Could Kill is set to premiere worldwide on Netflix on April 24.
