On Nov. 27, on his YouTube channel 'SUNG SI KYUNG,' singer Sung Si-kyung opened up about where his head and heart are at in the wake of a former manager's betrayal, candidly asking himself "Who am I, really?" and leaving fans with a lingering ache.
The episode featured broadcaster Lee Geum-hee, a former announcer, as a guest. Over a meal, the two traded honest talk, and Sung carefully confessed a question he's been asking himself a lot lately.
"These days I often catch myself thinking, 'What kind of person am I?'" he said. "I might look like a celebrity on the surface, but I'm not someone who walks around with the attitude of 'I'm Sung Si-kyung.'"
Then, thinking of the fans who have quietly had his back, he let out a calm smile. "I'm truly grateful there are people who like me and cheer me on. It feels like all that time has been layered together with my youth," he said. "I don't live trying to act all high and mighty, but I do know how heavy that support can be." He added, "That's why I want to make this year's year-end concerts even better."
Lee replied, "People often say culture is powerful, and you've become part of that culture." She continued, "I'm grateful, and proud, and you make me want to root for you," a heartfelt message that visibly choked him up.
Recently, it came to light that Sung suffered financial damage at the hands of a former manager he had worked with for years, drawing sympathy from fans. On social media, he wrote, "I went through an experience where my trust was shattered by someone I thought of as family," directly sharing how devastated he felt. His agency also stated, "We confirmed that the former manager betrayed the company's trust and have dismissed him," adding that they are investigating the exact extent of the losses.
