Actor Min-jong Kim revisited the viral tale of his leniency in a minor collision involving his ultra-luxury import and explained why he later parted ways with the car. The story resurfaced on the Dec. 3 broadcast of MBC variety show Radio Star, where he revealed he quietly sold the vehicle after public attention made it hard to stay under the radar.
The episode, titled 'The Dignity of a Solo,' featured Min-jong Kim, Ji-won Ye, Ji-yoo Kim, and Malwang. Prompted by host Gu-ra Kim, Kim again became the face of the widely shared "good deed." Gu-ra Kim said, "A neighbor in his apartment complex scratched Min-jong Kim's Rolls-Royce, and he didn't take a single won for repairs," kicking off the discussion.
Once it came out that repairs alone were about 300 million won and the car was worth around 600 million won, the panel gasped. Kim explained his thinking at the time: "She was a neighbor in my complex, and I didn't want to make a big deal out of it," adding that he handled the matter himself.
The incident dates back to September 2023, when a woman in her 40s driving a compact car grazed Kim's vehicle in an underground parking lot of an apartment building in Seoul. After being contacted, Kim replied, "It's just a light scratch, so it's fine. Thank you for reaching out," and declined to hold her liable. The exchange spread on social media as a heartwarming story.
Kim said the two have since kept in touch, maintaining a friendly neighborly bond—she has even stopped by with banchan (Korean side dishes) for him.
But there was an aftershock he didn't anticipate. "People kept asking, 'Is that the car from that story?' The attention got heavy," he admitted, revealing that he eventually sold the car quietly. In a twist, the feel-good moment became a burden.
Even so, Kim stayed modest about it all: "It was just something I hoped would pass quietly that happened to get out," he said evenly.
