SHINee's Key issued an apology through his label after being linked to the so-called "injection auntie" at the center of comedian Park Na-rae's controversy — and he's stepping down from current shows and scheduled activities. He also apologized for the delayed statement as the scandal grew. Fans are now zeroing in on how Key's response starkly differs from Park Na-rae's.

On the 17th, SM Entertainment first apologized for the delay in addressing the issue involving Key. The label explained that Key visited a hospital in Gangnam, Seoul, on a friend's recommendation, initially believing staffer "A" to be a licensed doctor there, and continued receiving treatment at that hospital. When hospital visits became difficult, he received house calls a few times; however, Key says he believed A was a doctor, and since A never said otherwise, he didn't realize at-home treatment could be a problem.

After questions arose about A's medical license, Key realized only belatedly that A might not be a doctor. He is said to be deeply reflecting on his ignorance amid great confusion. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the agency decided Key will step down from scheduled appearances and ongoing programs, reiterating an apology to fans and the public for causing concern.

The controversy drew even more attention as it followed Park Na-rae's video statement on the 16th. Park currently faces multiple allegations, including ties to the "injection auntie" — a nickname often used for alleged unlicensed cosmetic injectors — and abuse of power toward a former manager. In her video, Park said, "I take very seriously the worry and fatigue I've caused many people due to recent issues," "I have voluntarily stepped down from programs because of these problems," and "I don't want to cause confusion or burden to production teams and colleagues." She also stated, "We are proceeding with legal procedures," "These matters should be objectively verified through official procedures," and "I won't be making further comments after this video."

However, Park did not address specific allegations about the manager, the injection auntie, or procedures. The tone contrasts with SM Entertainment's statement. Notably, she did not say "I'm sorry" or "I'm reflecting," which is why many online are comparing the two responses.

Meanwhile, due to the fallout, Key has stepped down from his MC role at the 2025 MBC Entertainment Awards. MBC told multiple outlets that "Key, who was scheduled to MC, expressed his intention to halt activities, so this year's ceremony will proceed with the two-host system of Jun Hyun-moo and Jang Do-yeon."
