Ahn Hyo-seop is stepping into a new kind of romantic lead—one that balances sharp edges with quiet warmth.
On April 6, the team behind SBS’s upcoming Wednesday–Thursday drama Sold Out on You unveiled new details about his character, Matthew Lee, a perfectionist young farmer.
Addressing his nickname “SBS’s son,” Ahn shared, “I feel shy about it, but it gives me that much more resolve and trust,” acknowledging both the expectations and support tied to the label. Returning to the romantic comedy genre for the first time since Business Proposal, he added, “I’m grateful to be part of this project. Thank you for the passionate interest.”
To describe his character, Ahn pointed to an unexpected keyword: soboro bread. “He may seem firm and cool on the outside, but he’s warm at heart,” he explained. “He struggles to express himself, but he takes care of those around him—it felt like he’s someone who needs love as much as he gives it.”
He also shared how he approached the role, focusing on the contrast within Matthew Lee. “When he works, I paid close attention to his eyes,” Ahn said. “He takes on multiple roles—a farmer, a company CEO, and a cosmetics researcher—so I imagined him as very precise and professional. But around the villagers, he’s a bit awkward and grumbly, though still kind in his own way.”
As for what viewers can expect, Ahn described the series as something easy to return to. “It’s a drama you can enjoy comfortably over a meal,” he said. “I hope it offers a small sense of comfort to those dealing with everyday worries.”
Sold Out on You premieres on April 22 at 9 p.m. KST on SBS.
