Actor Ahn Hyo-seop is teasing a "tough on the outside, tender on the inside" transformation in his next project.
On April 6, the team behind SBS’s new Wednesday–Thursday drama Sold Out on You revealed character backstory details for Ahn, who plays Matthew Lee, a perfectionist young farmer.
Addressing the nickname "SBS’s son," Ahn said, "I feel shy about it, but it gives me that much more resolve and trust." Returning to romantic comedy for the first time in a while since Business Proposal, he added, "I’m grateful to be part of this project. Thank you for the passionate interest."
Picking "soboro bread" as the keyword for Matthew Lee, he explained, "He seems firm and cool on the surface, but he’s warm at heart. He’s clumsy at expressing himself, yet he looks after people around him — he felt like someone who needs attention and love." On his approach, Ahn added, "I paid special attention to his eyes when he’s working. As a young farmer, a raw-materials company CEO, and a cosmetics researcher, he juggles many roles, so I imagined he’d be highly professional and airtight in his field. On the other hand, with the villagers, he’s a bit awkward and grumbly but still wants to help — a cute side I tried to portray."
Finally, Ahn teased what to watch for: "It’s a drama you can enjoy comfortably over a meal," he said. "I hope it offers a moment of comfort to people dealing with everyday worries."
Meanwhile, Sold Out on You premieres on April 22 at 9 p.m. KST on SBS.
