The film PROJECT Y has surged to No. 1 in advance ticket sales among this month's releases, proving massive box office buzz even before its premiere.
As of 2:28 p.m. on the 19th, according to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing network, PROJECT Y, set to open on the 21st, is posting the highest pre-sale rate among January releases. It even climbed to No. 2 overall in pre-sales, overtaking holdovers like Avatar: Fire and Ash and Manyage Uri, emerging as the theater circuit's new dark horse.
PROJECT Y is a crime drama about Mi-seon (Han So-hee) and Do-kyung (Jeon Jong-seo), who dream of a different tomorrow in the heart of a dazzling city but, pushed to the edge, steal dirty cash and gold bars. With stylish, razor-sharp direction, the film drives up both tension and immersion as the two face an extreme, life-altering choice.
In particular, the sleek visuals and an OST featuring hip-hop musician-producer Gray are drawing attention as elements that elevate the film's mood. On top of that, the lineup—Han So-hee, Jeon Jong-seo, Kim Shin-rok, Jung Young-ju, Lee Jae-kyun, YooA, and Kim Sung-cheol—promises fresh synergy with distinctive personalities and acting chops.
Audience-participation events ahead of release are further fueling the heat. Along with stage greetings, promotions include Megabox's 24K pure-gold giveaway 'Golden Title Mission' and an 'Early-Bird Pre-sale Event' offering exclusive merchandise, all of which are ramping up anticipation among prospective moviegoers.
With its pre-sale dominance already making waves, all eyes are on whether PROJECT Y can reshape January's box office and kick off a full-fledged hit run.
