Shocking casting shake-up: Actor Park Byung-eun is reportedly stepping in as a new character to fill the role left vacant by Ryu Seung-beom's exit.
According to Ilgan Sports on the 11th, Park will appear in the Coupang Play original series Family Matters 2.
Family Matters is a thriller about a mother with a special ability to freely edit memories who teams up with her family to take revenge on villains. Season 1, released in 2024, earned praise for its brutal, play-like storytelling as unrelated strangers transform into a real family.
Season 2 will bring back Bae Doona, Baek Yoon-sik, Lomon, and Lee Soo-hyun. With Ryu Seung-beom stepping down from the role of father Baek Cheol-hee, attention had turned to who would fill his shoes.
Park Byung-eun is said to be playing a new character, Baek Cheol-yong, distinct from the existing Baek Cheol-hee. Reports describe him as a good-natured figure, sparking curiosity about how he'll be connected to Baek Cheol-hee.
Meanwhile, Family Matters 2 has finished fine-tuning its main cast and is set to kick off full-scale production.
