Actor Lee Dong-hwi revealed how his values have dramatically shifted as he remembered fellow actor Na Chul, who passed away — a confession that’s stirring strong reactions.
On the March 11 broadcast of the tvN variety show You Quiz on the Block, Lee appeared and shared candid stories about his family and friends.
Asked about his current interests, Lee said, "I'm 42 now, and until recently I lived with my wants at the center," adding, "Now I find myself thinking about living for my family."
He also spoke about his parents. "There was a time when my mother wasn’t in good health," Lee said. "I thought that appearing on TV more often would lift my parents’ spirits, so I decided to work even harder on my broadcast activities."
As the conversation continued, Lee couldn’t hold back his emotions while recalling friends who had passed away before him. With tears in his eyes, he said, "After going through that, I thought, 'I can’t keep living like this.'"
The person he referred to was actor Na Chul, who died in January 2023 following a sudden health decline. Lee confessed that saying goodbye to a close friend made him reexamine his own life. "After sending my friend off, I made a vow," he added. "The day I returned home after the funeral procession, I promised myself to live better so that something that heartbreaking never happens around me again."
Na Chul earned acclaim for his performances in films like Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, 1987: When the Day Comes, and Extreme Job, among many others.
