Foreigners trying to live as Korean daughters-in-law are igniting discussion with their candid, at times shocking, confessions.
On March 16, the YouTube channel MBN Enter uploaded a video titled "[Foreign Daughter-in-law Special] It's Hard to Live as a K-Daughter-in-law — MBN 260321 Broadcast."
The video highlights a range of realities faced by foreign daughters-in-law who married into Korean families. Italian daughter-in-law Cristina said that after 20 years she finally feels at ease with her mother-in-law, adding, "I take a shower and walk around in just my underwear in front of her." In contrast, Russian daughter-in-law Ko Mi-ho shared her shock, saying her mother-in-law "declared she was running away, leaving the grandkids behind." Actress Gwak Jeong-hee admitted there were communication challenges with her foreign daughter-in-law but said she now wants a relationship that connects "heart to heart."
Meanwhile, the broadcast is set to deliver a more in-depth story at 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 21.
Viewers reacted by saying, "It's important to understand cultural differences," and, "We need to make an effort to understand one another."
