A shocking controversy has erupted after a bus company moved to discipline a driver over an elderly woman's fall at a city bus stop — even though police found no wrongdoing. On March 18, the YouTube channel 'Han Moon-chul TV' posted a video titled "Episode 26696: A city bus stops at a station, an elderly woman standing falls — police also cleared it, but the bus company says it will discipline the driver!"

According to the video, as the bus pulled into the stop and came to a halt, an elderly woman who was standing lost her balance and fell. Police concluded it did not amount to sudden deceleration or an abrupt stop, so they chose not to open a case. However, the bus company is reportedly seeking to discipline the driver over issues related to the passenger's medical expenses.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court rulings state that carriers must pay medical costs unless the passenger was injured by suicide or intentional self-harm. Against this backdrop, debate continues over whether the company's disciplinary decision is justified.

Comments included: "Hundreds get off every day — if every case like this made drivers guilty, they'd all be fired within a month," and, "People like that shouldn't ride city buses!"
