Actor Jun Ji-hyun unveils a bold new side in the film Colony, marking her first big-screen role in 11 years.
Colony is set inside a building locked down by a mysterious outbreak, where isolated survivors wage a desperate fight against infected beings that evolve in unpredictable ways. Jun Ji-hyun plays Kwon Se-jung, a biotechnologist and the survivors' de facto leader.
Stills released on the 25th capture a range of moments—from her determined charge forward, to a shocked pause as she keeps a close eye on the infected, to a breathless face-off with them. Kwon Se-jung ends up trapped in the Dunguri Building after coming there at the suggestion of her ex-husband Han Gyu-seong (played by Go Soo) following her failed bid for reappointment as a professor. As a biotechnologist, she analyzes the infected's behavior and evolution patterns, leading the survivors and fighting to escape.
On why she chose this project, Jun Ji-hyun said, "I've always been a die-hard fan of Director Yeon Sang-ho, and more than anything, the lean and mean Colony script felt incredibly compelling." Director Yeon said of Jun Ji-hyun, "Her ability to immerse herself in the moment was astounding—I was reminded she's a true veteran."
Earlier, Colony amped up anticipation and curiosity with images of blood-soaked infected and an enigmatic, slime-like substance. The 30-second teaser signals that it could ignite another global K-zombie craze. The film opens this May.
