The directors of the Netflix animated film K-Pop: Demon Hunters have addressed the possibility of a sequel.

On April 1, at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall on Hangang-daero in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, a press conference was held to celebrate the film’s Academy Award win. In attendance were directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans; singer-songwriter EJAE; and The Black Label producers IDO (Yoo-han Lee, Jung-gyu Kwak, and Hee-dong Nam).

First, director Maggie Kang kept the sequel’s direction under wraps, saying, “I want to keep it a secret,” and added, “We have a big idea, but the details aren’t set yet.” Director Chris Appelhans, speaking about the character Jin-woo, said, “He’s alive in our hearts,” before noting, “It’s hard to say more than that.”

‘K-Pop: Demon Hunters’ is an action-fantasy animation that follows K-pop superstars Lumi, Mira, and Joy, who moonlight as hidden heroes protecting the world behind the glitz of the stage. The film gained major recognition, sweeping multiple awards including the Critics Choice Awards, the Golden Globes, and the Grammys.

Regarding Season 2, Maggie Kang emphasized, “Just like the first movie, Chris and I will make the kind of film we want to watch. Please look forward to it.”
