Comedian Kim Shin-young is dropping the diet routine she kept for 13 years—and revealing how her day-to-day life has changed.
On the April 10 broadcast of MBC’s variety show I Live Alone, viewers will see the unfiltered, real-life routine of Kim, who has lived alone for 14 years, along with the turning point that sparked her change. After years of strict dieting that once led to a 44 kg (about 97 lbs) weight loss, Kim candidly shares how she has recently returned to her former self.
Kim has built a reputation as a multitalented entertainer, thriving in comedy, music, and film, and serving as a radio DJ for 15 years. In this episode, she lays it all bare—showing an unadorned routine and a lifestyle that’s markedly different from before.
Her home instantly grabs attention. From a living room packed with figurines, to a labyrinthine closet, to a dedicated denim room filled only with jeans, and even display areas showcasing various collectibles—she flaunts her full-on maximalist taste. Jokingly, Kim says, “If I sold all of this, I could buy a house,” revealing the reason behind her serious collecting hobby.
The morning scene is just as striking. “My appetite is strongest in the morning,” she says, as she prepares her own meal. With prepped ingredients and side dishes, she sets the table in no time—and keeps breakfast going in three rounds, surprising everyone. As she hovers by the rice cooker, waiting for the rice to finish, her down-to-earth charm shines through.
“For mornings to feel happy, the night before has to be tiring,” she adds, sharing life wisdom worthy of a solo-living pro. She then admits what led her to finally let go of her rigid diet routine, saying, “People don’t change easily.”
At the heart of that change, she reveals, was a single remark from the late Jeon Yoo-sung—piquing viewers’ curiosity. Kim has long named Jeon as the comedian she respects most, raising interest in how his advice reshaped her outlook.
Kim Shin-young’s everyday life will be revealed on April 10 at 11:10 p.m.
