MBC’s new Friday–Saturday drama Fifties Professionals will premiere on May 22 as the follow-up to Perfect Crown.
Fifties Professionals is a breezy action-comedy about three men who used to be a big deal, suddenly set back into motion by fate. After a mysterious incident, the trio—once at the top of their respective fields—are banished to the remote island of Yeongseon-do. Ten years later, they set out to uncover the long-shelved truth of “that day.”
Leading the cast is the acclaimed Shin Ha-kyun as Jeong Ho-myeong, a National Intelligence Service agent who’s been on standby for a decade and now works as the head chef at Oran Banjeom. He searches for a crucial item to clear his name from past accusations.
Oh Jung-se plays Bong Je-soon, a North Korean special operative who lost his memory ten years ago. Once a legendary human weapon, he now struggles under an abusive, power-tripping boss and an immature nephew—nuances that Oh Jung-se is expected to deepen with his performance. Heo Sung-tae takes on the role of Gang Beom-ryong, the No. 2 of the Hwasanpa gang. He infiltrates the island to hunt down Jeong Ho-myeong for revenge on behalf of his dismantled organization, but comes up empty for a full decade—the cognitive dissonance of a gangster who’s also a convenience store owner is set to deliver laughs.
The first script reading brought together a powerhouse lineup including Shin Ha-kyun, Oh Jung-se, Heo Sung-tae, Kim Shin-rok (as Kang Young-ae), Lee Hak-joo (as Ma Gong-bok), Han Ji-eun (as Park Mi-kyung), Hyun Bong-sik (as Yoo In-goo), Kim Sang-ho (as Cho Sung-won), Shin Dong-mi (as Kwon O-ran), Kim Byung-ok (as Hwang Hwasan), and Kim Sang-kyung (as Han Kyung-uk). Photos from the session, released on the 13th, immediately drew attention.
