TWICE member Jeongyeon was moved to tears as she expressed deep love for her older sister, actress Gong Seung-yeon.
On May 7, tvN's variety show You Quiz on the Block dropped a teaser for next week's episode featuring sisters Gong Seung-yeon and Jeongyeon. The clip first highlighted Gong Seung-yeon's current work in the MBC drama Perfect Crown, then cut to an interview with her younger sister Jeongyeon, drawing attention.
In the video, Jeongyeon smiled and said, "I'm so happy my sister is doing well these days." But as she continued, "I was going through a mentally tough time...," her emotions welled up. "I'm choking up," she admitted, shedding tears. Though brief, the moment conveyed the heavy weight of what she has been through.
While promoting with TWICE, Jeongyeon faced difficult periods, including halting activities due to health issues. In 2020, she took steroids during treatment for a cervical disc injury and developed Cushing's syndrome, which caused rapid weight changes. On top of that, symptoms of panic disorder and anxiety disorder led her to suspend activities indefinitely.
She attempted a comeback in June 2021, but had to pause again that August before fully recovering. At the time, malicious comments about her appearance reportedly added to the psychological burden. Even so, Jeongyeon steadily focused on treatment and care, gradually regaining her health. She is currently active again and meeting fans.
Jeongyeon's older sister, Gong Seung-yeon, is earning praise for her role as Queen Dowager Yoon I-rang in Perfect Crown and remains busy with promotional activities. As the show's popularity rises, interest is naturally growing in the sisters' joint appearance.
