As a TV drama centered on 'military cooks' is taking over the small screen, a boldly original foodie comedy set inside a prison is gearing up for theaters.
On the 24th, the team behind Taste of Prison announced the casting of actors Lee Sun-bin, Park Ji-hwan, and Bae Hyun-sung.
Taste of Prison follows a star chef who crashes from grace overnight and reports to a prison kitchen, and a group of inmates who whip up soul-awakening dishes with unthinkable recipes and ingredients. By blending the warmth of 'food' with the closed world of a prison, the film promises a next-level comedy.
Lee Sun-bin transforms into Jessica, a brash star chef who has only ever walked the elite path of classical cuisine. Known for her scathing tongue, she hits rock bottom overnight and launches a chaotic fight for survival that drives the story. Park Ji-hwan plays Jeong-bae, who constantly clashes with Jessica while ushering a wave of gastronomy into the bleak prison. A mysterious figure who delivers mind-blowing flavors with unknown ingredients and wildly inventive techniques, Park is expected to craft another career-defining character with his signature lived-in, flavorful acting.
Joining them, Bae Hyun-sung plays Su-hyeon, the naturally gifted newcomer in Cell 3 and the prison's resident Gen Z chef. With his tender heart and innocent charm that trigger a protective instinct, Su-hyeon is set to bring warmth between the strong-willed Jessica and Jeong-bae.
With its fresh premise and trusted lineup of powerhouse actors, Taste of Prison is slated to begin filming in July.
