Actor Koo Kyo-hwan is going viral for his “iron stamina,” spearheading nonstop promotions for the film and drawing intense attention from fans.
On the 19th, distributor Showbox unveiled the sixth-week stage-greeting schedule for the movie Colony. Even more than a month after release, Koo’s eagerness to meet audiences in person stands out as he tirelessly crisscrosses theaters.
Online, fans reacted: “Is Koo Kyo-hwan’s stamina actually insane?”, “How many bodies does he even have?”, “With a name like ‘Koo’ (sounds like ‘nine’), he really seems to have nine bodies.”
Thanks to Koo’s relentless push, Colony continues its long run at the box office. According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing network on the 19th, Colony has drawn a cumulative 5,338,846 admissions.
Backed by a 20 billion won production budget, Colony scored major pre-sales across multiple countries, fueled by global interest in director Yeon Sang-ho’s signature K-zombie series. As a result, it easily blasted past its 3 million break-even point just 10 days after release, recouping its entire budget early.
Breathing new life into theaters, Colony follows survivors trapped inside a completely sealed building during a mysterious outbreak as they wage a desperate fight to live against infected that evolve in unpredictable ways. The film is now playing in theaters nationwide.
