AOA’s 2014 hit 'Miniskirt' has exploded back into the spotlight — and former member Jimin says the viral resurgence delivered an unexpected payday.
On the June 24 broadcast of MBC FM4U Noon Song of Hope, Kim Shin-young, Jimin appeared as a guest and caught up with host Kim Shin-young about her recent life and music.
When a listener asked, "How did you feel when 'Miniskirt' climbed back up the charts after 11 years?" Jimin replied candidly, "Thankfully, people created a challenge for it, so a hefty amount of performance fees came in." She added, "It felt like I suddenly got some pocket money. I was so grateful," noting, "With that money, I thought, 'I can put out my next album.'" In fact, Jimin recently dropped her new solo single 'WYA' and is continuing her solo promotions.
Kim Shin-young congratulated her, saying, "Since Jimin releases music independently, a viral resurgence is more than welcome."
'Miniskirt', originally released by AOA in 2014, drew fresh attention last year on short-form platforms. The hip-focused choreography — along with the catchphrase "My hips won’t stop" — spread online, fueling the song’s second wind 11 years after its release.
Jimin debuted in 2012 as AOA’s leader and rapper. After leaving the team, she continued as a solo artist and released 'WYA' on the 10th.
