The globally beloved story Brokeback Mountain — the Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal film — is heading to the Korean stage.
On the 15th, the production behind the music drama Brokeback Mountain revealed profile cuts of 12 cast members who will lead the show, including Jeong Sang-hoon, Lee Sang-hong, Joo Min-jin, Hong Seung-an, Jung Hwi, Yoon So-ho, and more.
The profiles capture each character’s backstory and aching emotional arcs. Jeong Sang-hoon and Lee Sang-hong, who play the middle-aged Ennis who opens the show, radiate a weighty presence marked by the passage of time. Joo Min-jin and Hong Seung-an, taking on Ennis in his earlier years, delicately portray a man torn by society’s harsh standards. As the free-spirited Jack, Jung Hwi and Yoon So-ho unleash fearless energy and the character’s disarming honesty.
As Alma, Jeon Jae-hee and Choi Ha-yoon embody steadfast strength even in an emotional whirlwind, while Min Sung-wook and Jung Myung-goon as Joe Aguirre add gravitas with a restrained intensity. Lee Young-mi and Moon Hye-won, playing Valladir, enrich the work’s lyrical mood with contrasting tones.
Set against 1963 Wyoming’s rugged Brokeback Mountain, this production — charting the heartrending bond between two men — will run from June 23 to September 6 at YES24 Art One Hall 1.
