Questions are mounting over whether Im Sung-geun’s planned restaurant near Simhaksan in Paju will open as scheduled following renewed controversy.
Photos of a building believed to house Im’s upcoming restaurant recently circulated online, showing a large banner reading “For Sale” hanging across the exterior. This led to speculation that construction may have stalled or that the opening had been abandoned.
Im has denied the rumors, responding to comments on YouTube by stating that the restaurant is still scheduled to open in March and that additional details will be announced later.
The confusion comes amid heightened scrutiny following the revelation of Im’s criminal record, which includes six prior offenses such as DUI, unlicensed motorcycle operation, and fines related to assault and bodily injury. The disclosure sparked widespread backlash, prompting Im to issue an apology and suspend all broadcast activities.
His previously filmed television appearances were reportedly edited out, and variety show discussions were canceled as the controversy escalated. Despite the situation, Im remains a certified master of Korean cuisine with more than 40 years of experience and previously gained attention by placing in the Top 7 on Culinary Class Wars Season 2.
With interpretations of the banner divided, attention remains on whether the restaurant will proceed with its planned opening.
