Seon-tae Kim, the former Chungju City official who went viral as "Chungju Man" on the city’s official YouTube channel, is set to appear on MBC’s variety show Radio Star—just days after stepping down.
On the 12th, the Radio Star team dropped a teaser featuring Kim. The episode airing on the 18th is a special themed "Public Servants of Laughter," with Boom, Moon Se-yoon, Nam Chang-hee, and Kim Seon-tae as guests. In the preview, Kim personally shared what he’s been up to since leaving public service, drawing major attention.
"It’s been just three days since I quit," Kim said, adding, "My first show after leaving is Radio Star," surprising the studio. As his first variety appearance since shedding his government title, viewers are eager to hear what stories he’ll spill.
Previously, Kim gained massive buzz while running Chungju City’s official YouTube channel. With delightfully B-grade humor and a candid, straightforward style, he won nationwide recognition. After his resignation, his personal YouTube channel surpassed 1 million subscribers in a short span.
In the teaser, Kim reacted honestly to the post-resignation shake-up. As subscriptions on Chungju City’s channel dipped, he joked, "People started unsubscribing and I thought, 'Hmm, that’s fine. They can leave—no problem,'" earning laughs. He added, "I got a lot of casting calls. When opportunity comes, you have to snatch it like a hawk," hinting at big changes ahead.
When Yoo Se-yoon asked, "Do you consider yourself a celebrity?" Kim fired back, "You’re my senior," showcasing his quick wit. He then declared, "I’m nationwide," flaunting undeniable variety chops.
Toward the end, he teased, "If I say this, I’ll probably get scolded…," heightening curiosity about what bombshell he might drop.
Kim Seon-tae’s unfiltered first variety appearance since resigning will air on the 18th at 10:30 p.m. on Radio Star.
