Netflix animated film K-Pop: Demon Hunters pulled off a viral upset at the Academy Awards, taking home both Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.

At the 98th Academy Awards held on the 15th (local time) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, K-Pop: Demon Hunters won Best Animated Feature, beating heavyweight contenders like Zootopia 2 and Elio. Then Lee Jae, who performs the film’s theme song 'Golden', clinched Best Original Song, securing a second trophy for the film.

Director Maggie Kang said in her acceptance speech, "It took far too long for a movie like this—where the heroes look like me—to exist," adding, "I hope the next generation won’t have to wait anymore." Co-producer Michelle Wing said, "I dedicate this award to my mother."

Another highlight of the night was a special stage by the in-film group Huntrix. The performance of 'Golden' by Lee Jae, Audrey Nuna, and Rae Ami blended Korean percussion and traditional elements into a dazzling showcase that drew thunderous cheers. K-pop lightsticks could be seen all around the venue, and Hollywood stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Emma Stone were spotted waving them as they enjoyed the show.

K-Pop: Demon Hunters has once again proven its global impact, adding Oscar glory to its record-breaking Netflix viewership and success on international music charts.
